Flame Hardening
Flame Hardening is a surface hardening process, in which metal surfaces are heated with a high temperature flame and quenched. Due to rapid quenching, a harder surface that is highly wear resistant is developed. Flame hardened surfaces are more resistant against wear and corrosion.
The various types of flame hardening include
- Stationary flame hardening
- Progressive flame hardening
- Spin flame hardening
- Combination flame hardening
Advantages of Flame Hardening
- Wear resistance is improved
- Processing time is shorter compared to other heat treatment processes
- Very cost effective operation
- Distortion can be quite less
- Hardness achieved is harder
